What is a registered agent?
A registered agent, or agent for service of process (SOP), provides a legal address within the jurisdiction where legal documents may be served during business hours. It is the registered agent's duty to receive and forward that service of process to the entity's designated contact, usually a company's legal team or representative.
The registered agent also receives official government documents including franchise tax notices and annual report forms. Registered agents may also notify business entities whether or not they are in "good standing."
As part of our registered agent services, CSC® also keeps accurate and complete records of all your entity transaction, litigation, and service of process histories. We send you email alerts reminding you of critical filing deadlines such as annual reports, franchise tax payments, and business license and doing-business-as renewals. What's more, our services are always rendered with the speed and security you deserve, including Limited Liability Company (LLC) registered agent services.
Our registered agent solution can also take care of your international service of process needs so that you don't miss any important paperwork or deadlines.
Why do I need a registered agent?
Most jurisdictions require entities that do business within their borders to designate and maintain a corporate registered agent (also known as a statutory agent or resident agent). Dependable registered agent service is your company's first and best defense against unwanted legal outcomes, including default judgment.
Can I be my own registered agent?
Yes, entities can be their own registered agent. But for reasons including convenience, dependability, and efficiency, most choose to retain a third-party to serve as their registered agent, such as CSC.
Our Registered Agent services gives you absolute control over your litigation management activities, eliminating unnecessary risk, and enabling you to present a solid defense in the event of legal action against your company. As a CSC client, you'll benefit from our wealth of experience, nationwide service network, and commitment to superior customer support.
