Elizabeth Sylves

I like the autonomy I have to meet my goals, aligned with CSC’s resources, and doing my part to meet our company-wide goals.

What is your full title and how long have you been in your current position?

I’m a senior business development manager for North America in the Digital Brand Services (DBS) business, also known as a “hunter,” and I’ve been in this role at CSC for four years.

Give us a little insight into your role and what you do.

In DBS, we operate under three pillars: domain security, which pertains to managing online digital assets; online brand protection that allows us to find and take down the bad guys on behalf of our clients; and anti-fraud solutions that help our clients identify and prevent online counterfeiting of their products and services.

I love my role. It’s fun, exciting, and extremely challenging. I’ve learned so much in the last four years. Day-to-day, I get to talk to the most interesting clients and prospects—some of the biggest brands in the world—and solve complex problems for them with their online assets, which is very rewarding. I’d say about 80% of my job is making and taking video meetings—prospecting and liaising with clients—and the other 20% is traveling. I also love that I don’t have to stay in one territory.

Why did you choose to work for CSC?

I’ve been in sales over 20 years, selling to multiple verticals, and even owned my own business at one point. Prior to CSC, I was in consulting as the vice president of sales for an IT technology firm, and while the position was prestigious, I felt like I’d reached my capacity for growth. That led me to look for an alternative opportunity that was close to home—because I’m a full-time working mom and also coach children’s cross country and track on the side. I was also focused on finding a company I could retire from. When I reached out to people in the community, everyone recommended CSC. As I dug deeper, I read CSC’s core values and they aligned with mine. That’s when I realized there was nowhere else I’d rather be.

What other roles have you held at CSC?

I jumped right into the hunter role for Digital Brand Services, and as a woman I am extremely proud to be so successful. It feels like women are still hesitant to enter the cyber security industry. Yet this is an extremely interesting field as the digital landscape is evolving all the time. I work really hard to meet my quarterly goals.

What has your career growth looked like at CSC?

It’s up to the individual to meet sales goals. I’ve hit my targets consistently for the last two years and I did that by setting specific goals for myself, including meeting my target every quarter, then becoming well versed enough to sell every product and service that we have.

What makes your team successful?

We collaborate daily. We review challenges within an opportunity, and we all want to help each other grow and be better. It’s a unique dynamic that empowers everyone to be successful.

Other than the people, what do you love most about the culture of CSC?

Being in sales is like owning your own business, but you also have the full resources behind you that come with a large company like CSC. I like the autonomy I have to meet my goals, aligned with CSC’s resources, and doing my part to meet our company-wide goals. I can do more at CSC than if I owned my own business.

What gets you excited to come to work in the morning?

I write daily sales tips for the team and as I’m formulating and writing them, I feel like I have the ability to help someone do something great for that day. It excites me to get that done first thing in the morning and provides me a charge to know I’m helping others. I also practice what I preach and it’s fulfilling to help people with insights into the good techniques I’ve developed.

What’s the most interesting thing about working here and about the work you do?

We’re always innovating and enhancing our technology to be on the forefront of industry challenges. Bringing our expertise and solutions to market is exciting. I love having the resources to help my clients alleviate their pain points; it really gives me a sense of purpose.

Name something—big or small—that you’re really good at.

I’m really good at identifying people’s strengths and weaknesses, then encouraging them to do something they never thought they could achieve. I know I make people feel better about a situation after we’ve spoken.

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?

I think one thing that surprises people about the work I do is that I have relationships with large, cool, well-known, popular brands.

What is the work-life balance like? Do you feel supported in pursuing interests outside of work?

I definitely feel supported in pursuing my interests outside of work. I coach K-8 kids in cross country and track for Catholic Youth Ministries, and I also run a spinning class at the Hockessin Athletic League. It’s also very rewarding for me to give back to the community, so I do a lot of volunteer work to raise money for children’s causes— like hosting spinning classes with proceeds going to a certain charity. And I like that there’s a fitness center at CSC—for days when you need some stress relief or just routine exercise.

What opportunities do you see developing in the industry in the next five years?

It’s a growing industry and cybercriminals are constantly innovating ways to attack major corporations online. The opportunities in the next five years are going to be based on bringing new products and services to market to help our clients and prospects stay protected against cybercriminals and counterfeiting.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to join your team?

Consistent effort over time = results.
