Each person on my team has their own strengths, which helps create a strong foundation.

What’s your full title and how long have you been with CSC?

I’m a customer service representative (CSR) with Business Licensing. I’ve been with CSC since December 2021. I started out as customer service associate (CSA) and became a CSR in July 2022. I work remotely in Palmetto, Florida.

CSAs do all the processing, complete the renewals and new filings, and contact the jurisdictions. As a CSR, I’m client-facing and I have more than 50 clients right now. I manage the licenses in their portfolio and help with any research requests for additional filings they may need. One of the biggest parts of my job is building a relationship with my clients. I want to make sure I give them the top-tier service they expect from CSC.

What has your career growth looked like at CSC?

Before joining CSC, I worked in retail for 20 years and I loved working with customers. I enjoyed that client interaction and wanted more of it in my role here. When I was a CSA, I had a conversation with one of the Business Licensing leaders; I told her that my goal was to move forward and grow with the company. She thought the role of CSR would be a good fit, particularly because it was more client-facing. Together we decided that this would be a beneficial move. And that’s been huge for me—the opportunity to grow professionally. That, along with a healthy work-life balance, were things that stood out to me as I was applying.

What makes your team different?

One of the benefits of being on my team is having a strong leader. Business Licensing has a few different teams. On my team, my leader supports us with whatever we need, whether we need a day off unexpectedly or help with a challenging situation with a client. She’s always there to help us be and do our best. I’m a newer CSR and my leader says it takes about 18 months to fully know how everything operates, so I frequently come across situations I haven’t seen before and need to ask a seasoned CSR or workflow coordinator for help. Each person on my team has their own strengths, which helps create a strong foundation.

What do you love most about the culture at CSC?

I love the work-life balance. I have two children, so when it’s time to clock out for the evening I know that I don’t have to worry about work until the next day. My leader is also very flexible if I need to take a long lunch or leave a few minutes early to do things with my children. The whole company is very understanding and gives us the support and freedom we need to take care of things in our personal lives so we can do great work while we’re here.

What gets you excited to start work in the morning?

When I was growing up, I loved logic puzzles. In Business Licensing, a lot of what we do is like putting a puzzle together. I like digging into things and trying to find out where the pieces fit. Each day is also very different from the day before, so you don’t know what you’ll be working on from day to day.

Is there something you’re learning now that’s important to your job?

When I talked with my leader about my growth opportunities and goals, I let her know that one area I’d like to improve on is public speaking. In our team meetings, our workflow coordinators hold short training sessions on new programs or refresh us on processes that we use. I asked my leader if I could facilitate some of the work group trainings to improve my public speaking skills. I know that if I want to grow, I need to be comfortable presenting to a group. Since then, she’s given me a couple of CSA-related topics to share with the team in our work group. These are topics I’m very familiar with and comfortable speaking about, which is a great starting point.

When you talk to people about your job, what surprises them about what you do?

They don’t know about all the different services CSC can provide to clients. When they ask me specifically about my job, they don’t realize what actually goes into business licensing. I have a lot of trades clients—contractors, engineers, architects—and their filings can be complicated and time sensitive. They’re surprised to know all the pieces that need to fall into place so people in these professions can get and maintain their licenses. A lot of people ask me if we’re hiring, so I must be saying something right!

What advice would you give to somebody who wants to join CSC?

CSC is a great company to work for! Since I’m a remote worker, most of the time I’m in an office by myself, but I do work with a team as well. It’s very important to have the flexibility to be able to manage your own job duties and also work with a team to help support them.
