What is your full title and how long have you been in your current position?

I started as a business development manager eight years ago and have recently been promoted to head of business development of greater Asia region (Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China).

Give us a little insight into your role and what you do.

My main role is to expand CSC’s business in the Asia-Pacific region by offering our domain management and security services as well as brand protection and fraud services. I focus on building connections and relationships with new and potential customers, offering them the best protection and security for the digital assets. It’s all about identifying what challenges brands face and how I can work with them in the best way possible.

Why did you choose to work for CSC?

After I graduated from university, I worked in marketing organizing events, speaking with the media, etc. However, I quickly learned that I wanted something different and moved into a role in the digital world—the internet. I found CSC’s job offer as a business development manager on LinkedIn. After I applied and spoke with various employees, I knew this was where I wanted to work. Moving into a business development role was the best decision ever— especially working in our industry of cyberspace and cybersecurity. The landscape of the internet is changing all the time. Every day I learn something new, and that excites me, as it allows me to better consult with my customers.

What has your career growth looked like at CSC?

I joined as a junior sales rep., but I learned about our services and products, acquired sales skills, and learned how to network. My manager coached me throughout orientation and beyond. I was completely new to the industry and had a lot to learn, and I also encountered the challenge of being a woman in tech while working on a team dominated by men. But I worked very hard and learned quickly, and I became sucessful in my role. Once I caught on, I began to enjoy the fast pace and the diverse culture of my team and CSC. After eight years, CSC promoted me to a team leader. This is a wonderful opportunity for me as I will be able to help my team grow and achieve their goals. This will require new skills, but I’m ready for it.

What makes your team successful?

My team is spread between Hong Kong and mainland China and my manager is in Australia. Making sure we all work together, use the same message, and have the same knowledge about our services is important. We’re a very dynamic and agile team, and we all have the drive to succeed. I think of our team as the bridge between East and West—we gather all the industry knowledge, discuss, and facilitate our customers’ understanding. We’ve actually created a platform to inform everyone about new policies so the whole team is up to speed on internet governance.

Other than the people, what do you love most about the culture of CSC?

We have great people and leaders in our organization. I feel like ideas are shared and heard from the bottom up, and acted upon. We have a real “make it happen” mentality where everyone has the same goal and trusts each other to drive success.

What gets you excited to come to work in the morning?

I am quite fortunate that I found a job and company I love—and so early in my career. I learn about new upcoming trends, review new policy developments, and translate that into information my customers and prospects need and can use to protect their digital identity. It’s very exciting that I can help them navigate an ever-changing online environment and be part of something meaningful and impactful.

Name something—big or small—that you’re really good at.

I’m very good at finding a common language with another person. This job requires that we speak and meet with many different people in big organizations from various departments, like marketing, legal, IT, and security and all have different needs and goals. I feel my strength is to be able to communicate with all different kinds of people.

What is the work-life balance like? Do you feel supported in pursuing interests outside of work?

Absolutely. During my eight years here at CSC, I got married, had a wonderful baby, and I always felt supported. At CSC, you have to perform, no doubt, but they support every employee to be there for their families. Hong Kong is a fast-paced city and it’s all about succeeding. At CSC, I have a life outside work and can provide for my family. This is very rare, hence why I have loved being part of this company for so long.

What opportunities do you see developing in the industry in the next five years?

Current geo-political events, wealth inequality, climate emergency, and other important events are encouraging governments to take a more controlled approach over the internet. More and more policies that will change how the internet is being used currently are being drawn up and launched. Brand owners will have to adapt to those changes, and we will help them do so. Brand protection and domain security will grow even more in importance.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to join your team?

If you’re passionate about the internet landscape, love to constantly learn new things, are driven by success, and if you like working with other people while also maintaining a nice work-life balance, CSC is the place for you.
