CSC Trailblazer Growing Her Career

With company support and resources, Lindsey Boss-Ruch earned her Lean Six Sigma certifications

By Jeff Lyons, CSC Senior Communication Specialist

Lindsey Boss-Ruch considers herself a natural problem-solver. “I enjoy researching and resolving problems,” the CSC project manager says. “I like to dig in and find the root cause of the problem, then figure out how we can make it better.”

She’s held several different roles in her nearly 10 years with the Corporate and Legal Solutions (CLS) business, including customer service associate, service specialist, and workflow coordinator. Each move has included more responsibility, which has helped Lindsey grow.

Still hungry to learn more, Lindsey researched careers that aligned with her strengths and interests and discovered project management. That led her to Lean Six Sigma certification, which uses data-driven methodology to improve business processes. “I checked with my leaders to see what kind of training was available,” she says.

To Lindsey’s delight, CSC’s Global Learning and Development Team offers thousands of professional development courses, providing the training she needed. She earned her white belt, which provides basic working knowledge of the Six Sigma language and methodology, in just a couple of weeks.

From there, she sought to learn even more. Lindsey consulted with a talent partner in Global Learning and Development, and together they identified the formal project management training she needed to pursue other Lean Six Sigma certifications. “They got me set up and added all the required courses. I was able to obtain the certification.” All the courses are now there for everyone else too. “As far as I know, I’m the first person in the company to complete the yellow belt through MyCSC Learn. They call me their trailblazer,” she says with a laugh. Yellow belts understand Six Sigma principles and terminology and work with process mapping and data gathering.

Since the courses were part of the company’s Learning and Development portfolio, Lindsey was able to access them free of charge. People seeking Lean Six Sigma certification on their own can pay hundreds of dollars for the training. “CSC was able to get what I needed,” she says. “If you’re interested in learning something and don’t see it, our Learning and Development Team will see if it’s available and may be able to add it for you. It’s one of the amazing benefits of working here. The company really invests in our growth.”

“That’s why they offer these courses. They want us to be successful and advance on our path because it benefits them as well,” she says. “Everybody is so supportive, and they encourage you to learn. You have to put yourself out there, and take advantage of what’s available to you, and you can forge your own path. Everything has aligned for me, and I feel extremely fortunate.”

In addition to getting more Six Sigma belts, Lindsey wants to hold onto the trailblazer torch and create a project management group within her line of business for customer service associates and representatives. “I want to expand it as much as I can, so we can continuously make CSC an even better place.”
