Protect your trademarks in the new gTLDs with DPML blocks
Donuts Inc., one of the largest new gTLD applicants, has gone live with an innovative domain-blocking program designed to help companies protect their brands and IP rights online.
Donuts' Domain Protected Marks List (DPML) enables brand holders to purchase "blocks" on trademarks that are registered and fully validated with the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). A DPML block provides protection across all Donuts-managed new gTLDs that are launched (expected to be in excess of 200), thus offering brand owners a cost-effective mechanism for IP protection.
Benefits of the DPML program:
- Brand owners can protect their trademarks and also keywords that contain the trademark. (Note: a separate DPML must be purchased for each variation.)
- A single DPML eliminates the need to manage multiple, defensive registrations to ensure comprehensive protection.
- A minimum five-year term reduces the frequency of renewals.
- The Donuts DPML program provides brand owners with the flexibility to "activate" blocked names and operate live websites on a TLD-by-TLD basis if a company's needs change in the future. (Additional fees do apply to activate.)
